How do I make a timelapse video from pictures in a video editing application?

Take photos at around five minutes interval from the same position (Camera stationary on a tripod)

Then import all these photos in a video editing application.

Select all photos and reduce their duration to .2 seconds.

Remove all the effects like Ken burns effect or transitions which could be automatically be applied to your photos as it happens in iMovie.

You’re done export your movie and you have got timelapse from your still photos and you have become a cinematographer and a filmmaker.
