How can I edit a video without losing quality?

As a cinematographer, video editor or film maker bitrate or data rate will depend on the end use of the video. When outputting video higher bitrate would mean higher image quality (also bigger file size some websites limit the file size)

Bitrate is the number of bits that are processed per second e.g. One megabit per second (Mbps) equals 1000 kbit/s (Kbps)

Bitrate for HD video is in the range of 5-20 Mbps. Standard definition is typically 1-6 Mbps and high quality web video about 2 Mbps. Video for phones needs to be in kilobits per second, or Kbps.
